250 word statement

Follow Me
Parke Englebretsen

This series is based on 'Just Looking' a chapter by David Campany. Campany discusses in this chapter the idea of that the 'camera being an extension of the eye' and 'how in a highly visual culture images are not merely seen; they condition how, why and at what we look at'. I found ideas from this chapter to be the most fitting to my series Follow Me.

Follow Me is a series that captures being on an adventure or journey. The goal of my series was to create a photo series from my point of view for the viewer to follow and also followed the reading. A unique aspect of my series is that you never see a person in any of the photos making it seem isolated and not real. Also being shot in black and white shows the viewer ideas of isolation within nature.

Walking my dogs in the bush is something I enjoy doing. The sense of adventure and finding hidden spots is addictive. Dogs are the best cardio partners as they never complain ad are always keen to keep pushing forward, it is also a fun way to keep me and dogs active.

Artist models I have looked at include Alec Soth, Thomas Struth, Jitka Hanzlova and Sally Mann. I like how they include a model in a hostile environment and there is a lot of emotion in the imagery to help create a story with the camera as it extends their perspective of Just Looking.
